I never saw Personal Column live, though I would have loved to. Somewhere in the loft I have a load of cassette tapes with recordings of the band's music, taped from the radio (BBC radio Merseyside's "Street Life", and John Peel). I keep thinking about transferring all those tapes to mp3, but never get round to it; they probably won't play any more :-(
Most of that stuff you can't buy anywhere, and I'd given up any hope of being able to find Personal Column tracks. So I am really chuffed to have stumbled upon this site (it was a random web browsing thing triggered by listening to recent Janice Long interview with Ian McNabb...which reminded me of listening to Street Life and all the other great bands from that time in Liverpool). I was amazed at how many tracks I remembered and could sing along too, even though I hadn't heard them for over 20 years. These songs have really stood the test of time, OK so they have a very 80s feel (er yes, of course) but they are basically great tunes with intelligent lyrics...Strictly Confidential seems even more relevant today in the internet age than it was back in the day!
Thanks Personal Column for making this great music. I wish you'd been more successful; you deserved it more than some of those who made it big. Thanks (to whoever is responsible) for creating this great site, it's really taken me back in time and I feel like I've found a long lost friend :-) Cheers. | | | | | |
